Why you should avoid Math Videos

Math - Ugh. It is a subject that many students continue to find challenging. In California, 7 out of 10 students aren't performing well in the subject. Teachers, with an overwhelming number of students, find it nearly impossible to give their students the individual attention they need to flourish. Parents often don't remember much about the material they saw long ago to help their children. What can we do to improve this state? Here's a big tip that I hope can help you:

Avoid Math Videos

Avoid Math Videos

Many of us are plenty independent. We look for ways to find solutions on our own. Watching video tutorials is a great way to learn how to do things, however, it is not the best way to learn if you're in a Math class with an exam the following day. The reality is that videos are time consuming. A video explaining a simple concept such as the quadratic equation can take between 5 and 10 minutes to watch. You will have to watch the whole video without skipping parts so you don't miss important information. A bigger problem arises when the video does not contain the information you were looking for. You may find yourself spending more time searching for the right video rather than studying the material needed. Again, when studying Math be careful with video tutorials. Use them when you have plenty of time or when someone trustworthy explicitly tells you it has the information you need. Otherwise, use other alternatives when studying for a Math class.
